Avondale Forest Park is located in Rathdrum, Co. Wicklow. It was the estate of Charles Stewart Parnell until his death. It is now open to the public. There is free entry and free car parking. There are many walks of varying lengths you can do. Parnell’s house is still there but is currently closed to the public. There is a small wooden playground near the house. Apparently the tallest tree in Ireland is also there – we have yet to find it!
Coillte have great plans to develop the park in the coming years – to open the house as a museum, to add a cafe and develop the playground and to add a tree top walkway. Watch this space!
