Dublinia and the Viking Festival

Dublinia is a popular tourist attraction beside Christ Church Cathedral in Dublin. It focuses on the thousand year history of Dublin and is very interactive. It is probably a little scary for younger kids as the wax figures and scenes are very realistic! While we did the actual tour of Dublinia a few months ago the first time we visited was actually for a Viking Festival one autumn. In the courtyard was a Viking demonstration where you could look at Viking artefacts including armour and weapons. Then, down the hill, a Viking long ship was docked in the Liffey to be viewed. Finally, although we didn’t take the kids to this, was an evening performance in the amphitheatre outside the city council offices in Woodquay, all about the Vikings. This was a free event and really well done!

It is worth keeping an eye online to find out if such an event is happening again – or any other family friendly events!
