Pumpkin Festival
While we are not Hallowe’en fans in this house we do enjoy celebrating the seasons and taking part in different activities at different times during the year. As a result the Scalpwood Pumpkin Festival in Kilternan has become a yearly activity for us. The focus is on autumn and pumpkins which connects nicely to Harvest for us although there is a small haunted house each year but this can be easily skipped.
Some families do come dressed up in Hallowe’en outfits but it is a very family friendly event. We focus on the hay bale maze, racing rubber ducks and picking out a pumpkin from the pumpkin patch. You can carve your pumpkin there at the festival (bring your own scalpel or buy one for €5 there) or, if you want the professional look you can pay some of the employees to carve amazing pumpkins for you! Alternatively, you can bring you pumpkin home and carve it there.
It’s a fun autumn day out and is very reasonably priced! Book tickets online in advance but bring some cash for the pumpkin patch as you will have to pay for your pumpkin on the day (different sizes cost different amounts).
