St Brigid’s Day crosses
10 March 2021
St. Brigid’s Day takes place on February 1st each year. There are many stories of St. Brigid – for example, the story of her growing cloak when she asked the King of Leinster for some land on which to build a church. She is remembered as a kind and caring woman who loved God and sought to tell others about Him. She fashioned her simple cross out of reeds or rushes. To this day people make St Brigid’s crosses out of reeds or rushes each year. Some people display these crosses in their homes all year round.
We have made St Brigid’s Day crosses out of pipe cleaners and paper in the past. Instructions on how to make a cross can be found here: How to Make a St. Brigid’s Cross with Kids
